Energy Onyx was a transmitter manufacturer in Valatie, NY for several decades. Some of their equipment was designed and built in house, others rebadged from other manufacturers, often RVR. This Exciter I am nearly certain was a Rebadge of an RVR Blues series. Maybe not. What’s certain is the power suppply is dead, the fan is frozen and most of the capacitors have failed.
The Power supply, right side, gets all new capacitors and current limiting resistors. The main board also got new capacitors and two new voltage regulator IC’s, just above the PSU ribbon cable. And the fan- replaced. After that the unit powered up and ran correctly.
This is the 500W amplifier the exciter drove. Nice simple design. Two PA modules, each with it’s own switching PSU and fan. A simple splitter divides the exciter drive between modules and a combiner ties them to the antenna output.
The Start/stop buttons had failed, one Amplifer module shorted, both fans failed yet it still chugged along making about half power.
New PA Mosfets, new fans, new switches and a good cleaning to come.
Back to life at full power.
